Q: I have 5 years of Experience in IT industry as a .NET Developer. I am planning to study forward and want to take up my Career as IT Consultant or Analyst 2 years down the line. Now I have some Certification Options that i can go with but Am confused which one should i take up as a priority
1) PMP (Project Management Professional from PMi institute)
2) ITIL V3 Foundation Certification
3) Information Security Management
4) MBA Degree Correspondence
Please advice me on the same.
A: It depends on the position you aspire to.
Project Managers tend to make more per year than Business Analysts. (It is often the case that Project Managers use Business Analysts on their teams, but not vice versa.). If you want to be a project manager, a PMP certification would be more highly regarded on the resume.
ITIL is the most widely accepted approach to IT service management in the world, with world class practices supported by quality services from a wide range of service providers, consultancies and professional qualifications. You will need to clear expert level exam and gain relevant implementation exposure. If you want to be a consultant in this field there is wide scope abroad.
With a growing demand for professionals possessing IS audit, control and security skills Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) are in demand. You need to clear certification and gain experience in relevant field.
If you want to career in Management, don't go for MBA Degree Correspondence as learning and interaction is very minimal. You can opt for one year executive management program or part time MBA program from reputed institute
