You need to have at least 60%. Besides that your eyesight should also be good. Normally you will not be allowed to join if you are using glasses. Life at sea is not that easy....more so for an engineer considering that you have to work in an extremely warm engine room which only gets worse in warm weather. Gone are the days when one thought that the Merchant Navy meant seeing the world. Responsibilities hardly allow one to step off the ship in ports and technology today makes ships spend far lesser time in ports.Contracts can last as long as 6 ~ 9 months and family life can be disrupted. See if you can get into some Management program after graduating. You may earn close to what we earn at sea today. All the best.
