A: Customize your resume and make sure that you include a custom cover letter with each application. Instead of trying to apply to 50 different employers at a stretch, apply to just a few relevant ones.

Contact your extended social network and request them to inform you if there is suitable opening in their company. Build your network via job networking sites like LinkedIn. Join online forums, groups meant for IT jobs.

Interview prepartion is important. Research on common HR and technical question and prepare unique answers for those difficult question. The key is to get the right skills and certification required for IT projects.

You may have gaps in career for many reasons. Be honest. Speak confidently about your experiences during the gaps. Some could transfer to on-the-job skills.

MBA after working in PSU or MNC?

Sender Name: Rahul

Hello sir,im in final year of my engineering i have two job offers one from reputed automotive mnc and other from a navaratna defence psu i would like to do mba after 3years of work my doubt is

1. which one should i join psu or mnc so that experience gained will be helpful and recognized during mba?

2. Is it true that once we work for defence psu we cant go abroad for higher education?

3. Is work experienced at psu is recognized by mnc companies during mba placements?

A: It depends on training methodology and department you will be posted. Your experience in PSU will get similar weightage  as compared to that in MNC. Think about your long term career goal and take appropriate decision. There are several factors including work environment, place of posting, salary offered, notice period and current financial health of the company.

It is true that US had some restriction technology transfer issue and related matters with defense PSUs. But these conditions are not there in most of higher education case.

Remember the quality of experience, leadership qualities, work category  and nature of managerial experience that matters the most during MBA placements.

Think on the line of your interest areas, long term career goals and present offers (nature of work/salary package/place of posting) and take appropriate decision. Wish you all the best!

IIT non-CS or IIIT CS?

Name: Sumangal Vinjamuri

Q: Dear Sir/Madam, I am Sumangal and I have given my Class XII exams in Visakhapatnam. I am very much interested in Computer Science and wish to pursue CS in Engineering. Now, I have given the IIT-JEE and I am expecting a reasonably good rank in it, though insufficient to get me into the CS program in the best 5-6 IITs. Now my point of concern is that, should I instead choose to go for admission into IIIT-Hyd (yes, IIIT, not IIT) CS which I am quite confident of getting, or opt for other streams in the top IITs? I am willing to forego CS if it so happens that my career wouldn't be as bright if I do not pursue it from the IITs. I have been hearing comparisons of IIIT-Hyd with the IITs as an excellent alternative for CS and that it is on par with them. What do you think of these claims? Are they sufficiently true? I'd be highly indebted to you if you would give me your opinion about it. Thank you.

A:

Go for IIT, if you are getting CS or ECE.

Go for CS in IIIT-H – if you are not getting CS or ECE in any of 5 top IITs

If you want to pursue higher studies, like an MBA or MS in a Foreign University then go for IIT. IIT has a brand image out there in foreign universities.

Remember ECE (Electronics and Communication Engineering) and EEE (Electrical and Electronics Engineering) are excellent alternative to CS. ECE is a very good branch and you can get top placement in Software, Networking, VLSI and Telecom compnies.

IITs have a big brand name behind them and that is good enough to get you a good placement across the world. (Top 5 IITs)

It is a fact that IIIT-H is an excellent alternative for CS. IIITs have risen sharply in the past few years and are already competing with IITs in terms of placements etc but still to catch up in terms of placement, reputation and brand visibility.

Please do research about faculty, infrastructure etc before deciding to join any institute even IITs.

Can i directly join for 3 rd year in any distance university for BCA

Name: Vikram

Q: hi sir, i have completed diploma(CS) after 10th and with 3 years of experience in IT field. Please let me know can i directly join for 3 rd year in any distance university for
B.C.A r Bsc. Certification completed : CCNA(cisco certified),Jncia(Juniper certification)

Kinldy reply for the above query.

A: Your diploma is the equivalent of plus two. Opt for lateral entry direct admission to 2nd year of BCA or Engineering. It becomes a three years instead of normal four years. You can also go for graduations in any stream like BA, BCA, BSc (IT), B.SC,B.COM.

For this you will need to appear for the entrance exam in the lateral scheme. You can also consider going in for Bachelors course. You donot need to appear for the 12th exam. You can approach the university near you for details of the courses available.

You can do graduation after 10th from IGNOU(correspondence). IGNOU main center is in Delhi and its study centers are in all the big cities. You can also do graduation from any open university.
